About NAWIA

Empowering Women in Agriculture Since 1999
Our Vision
"A safe society where small-scale women farmers and youth across all agricultural value chains have a voice in decision-making and governance, are empowered with agricultural skills and knowledge, and are confident in their choices while living above poverty."
Our Mission
To work with stakeholders through advocacy and capacity building to reduce poverty and empower smallholder women and youth, improving their living standards through sustainable agricultural practices and innovative solutions.
Our Story
The Nigerian Association of Women in Agriculture (NAWIA) was founded in 1999 as a grassroots movement to address the unique challenges faced by women in Nigeria's agricultural sector. What began as a small group of passionate individuals has grown into a nationwide network of over 18,000 members across all 36 states of Nigeria.
In 2011, NAWIA was formally registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission, solidifying its position as a leading NGO dedicated to empowering women and youth in agriculture. Since then, we have implemented numerous programs and initiatives that have directly impacted the lives of thousands of smallholder farmers, rural women, and young agricultural entrepreneurs.
Today, NAWIA continues to be at the forefront of agricultural innovation, sustainable practices, and gender-inclusive policies in Nigeria. Our work spans from providing hands-on training and resources to advocating for systemic changes that create more opportunities for women in agriculture.
